Boxcar
Boxcar was an orphaned baby pigeon found on the mean streets of Chicago. She was smuggled back to Wild Wings Bird Rehabilitation by brave volunteer and transporter, Joleen Lis, without fear of getting caught with a live bird in her purse on the train! Boxcar was fed and cared for until she was weaned, and then taken in once again to by Joleen when she was ready for adoption. She loved her bath time, and never hesitated to perch comfortably (for her anyways) right on top of your head. She loved playing with her bell toys and snuggling on her comfy guinea pig bed. Boxcar lived out all of her days with Joleen and we are glad to be able to share her story of hope, inspiration, and joy.
Maya
♥ In Loving Memory ♥
??/??/?? - 3/20/24

Maya arrived at Wild Wings Bird Rehabilitation about 4 years ago as a rescue from a hoarding situation. She was bound in electrical tape, which appeared to be an attempt to wrap a broken wing. The wing was so severely mal-healed, it had to be amputated. But did that stop Maya? Not for a second! We could tell that this elderly, one-winged pigeon still had a lot of life in her years!
Her spunk and sweetness won our hearts, and her zeal for life inspired us. She loved to demand cuddles, and loved everyone but the postman, who she would angrily coo at every time he came near the window by her cage. Maya's Legacy reminds us that no matter what we go through, there's always a sunny side to life! We will always remember you, Maya!
Popple
Popple came to us as an egg. One we did not expect to hatch, but it did. Soon after hatching we noticed that Popple had several birth defects. Despite all of this he was friendly and happy. He was a fighter. After his general health stabilized, It was decided we would have his leg surgically corrected. Our hope was to give him the best shot at life. The surgery was a success and Popple found a forever home with several other rescued pigeons in a small local sanctuary.
Verni

In Loving Memory of Verni the Russian Tumbler

Verni was a tiny pigeon with a giant personality. Despite the physical challenges she faced from severe disability, her spirit burned bright and fierce. She was a firecracker in feathers — bold, opinionated, and impossible to ignore.

Verni made her preferences known from day one. She despised vegetables with a passion and made it clear by yelling indignantly at any bowl that dared contain them. Her stubborn protests became a part of daily life — and one of her many charms.

But beneath that spicy little soul was a bird who loved deeply. Verni adored warm baths, where she could soak in comfort and feel peace wash over her. And above all, she was daddy’s girl. She found her safest, happiest place in his hands and heart, where she was doted on, protected, and profoundly loved.

Though her body was limited, Verni’s spirit knew no bounds. She lived on her own terms and brought joy, laughter, and sass into the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her. Her time was far too short, but her memory will always be fierce, warm, and unforgettable — just like she was.

Fly free, little firecracker.

Pudds

In Memory of Pudds 🕊💕

Pudds the pigeon came into this world’s chaos tucked safely inside a Keurig box—her first sign that she was no ordinary bird. She was the very first pigeon of a dear friend, and from that moment on, she ruled hearts and homes with gentle confidence and cozy charm.

A beautiful female Homer with a soft soul and a sweet tooth, Pudds had a particular fondness for donuts and safflower seeds. Nesting was serious business for her, and she had a special eye for interior design—zipties and Q-tips being her preferred materials for building the perfect nest.

But above all, Pudds was the queen of snuggling. Whether tucked into a hoodie or curled into warm hands, she brought comfort and calm wherever she landed. Her bond with her human was deep and unshakable, and the love she gave was as vast as her wingspan.

Fly high, sweet Pudds. Your soft coos, donut crumbs, and nesting quirks will always be remembered. 🕊💔
