Louie’s Loft is a small, private pigeon rescue operating with deep compassion and a strong sense of purpose. It’s a continuation of heartwork that began with Wild Wings, now narrowed in focus to allow for deeper, more personal care for each bird.
Run out of a cozy, lovingly maintained home and an outdoor loft structure, Louie’s Loft specializes in the rehabilitation, sanctuary, and lifelong care of pigeons—both feral and fancy—who cannot be released or were never wild to begin with. The space is peaceful and safe, designed with the birds’ physical and emotional needs in mind.
Inside the home, a select group of special-needs, elderly, or deeply bonded birds live in comfort and security. These birds are family. Their lives are filled with soft places to perch, sunlight streaming through windows, gentle music, and warm human companionship. Some, like Louie and her mate Kawaii, have their own love stories and routines, each with distinct personalities and histories.
Outside, the aviary is a dynamic space for pigeons who are fully flighted and able-bodied but not suited for release. These include surrendered pets, dumped birds, or former racers and breeders who found their way to sanctuary. The loft is filled with perches, nest boxes, sunlight, and enrichment that allows them to express natural behaviors and enjoy community.
Unlike large operations, Louie’s Loft isn’t about numbers—it’s about relationships. Every resident is known, cherished, and given a forever home tailored to their needs.
Though no longer a public intake facility, the Loft occasionally takes in select cases when space allows and works to educate the public about the value of pigeons as companions, the cruelty of industries that exploit them, and the need for greater respect and compassion toward these misunderstood birds.
